About Our Company

Akron Polymer Systems, Inc. (APS) was established in 2002 for the purpose of developing and commercializing high performance polymers for aerospace, optical and photonic applications.  The affiliation of corporate officers with the University of Akron has facilitated technology transfer between the University and APS.

Our President and Vice-President have extensive experience in synthesis, characterization and commericialization of soluble aromatic polyimide systems.  They have published a total of over 100 papers that cover this work and two of their polyimides have been commercialized.  Films of one are currently being used in flat panel liquid crystal displays on aircraft instrument panels and on large screen televisions to improve off-angle viewability.  Films of the other are used as half-waveplates in optical-interconnects to suppress polarization dependence of light signals.

The company employs seven, full-time Ph.D. polymer scientists.  Our facility has the use of the University of Akron Research Foundation pilot plant to scale up synthesis of many different polyimide resins.

Akron Polymer Systems has the expertise, facility and capability to do your research and development for you.  We welcome your inquiries and look forward to working with you to ensure the success of your next project.
